ENGL 123 Media Writing MWF, 11:00 am
An introduction to the process of writing for the media. Students will learn to report, write, and edit stories for print and social media.

ENGL 220 Topics in Lit: Environment and Literature MWF, 1:00 pm
An introduction to the study of literature through the examination … the relationship between humans and the environment.”

ENGL 265 Technical Writing T/TH 10:00-10:50am
Study and practice of writing in professional fields. In this section, we will study, design, and build a board game–and then use this project to generate all sorts of professional writing: reports, memos, proposals, instructions, press releases, and more.  The course will culminate with a trade-show-like display of our games where we will invite members of the Defiance community to decide which game is the best. (Prerequisite: ENGL 125)

ENGL 295: The Marvel Cinematic Universe  (two credits) 3:00-5:30, T (viewing); 3:00-3:50, R (discussion); second eight weeks of semester
The class will discuss such films as, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Iron Man, Captain America, and The Incredible Hulk. Our focus will be on the nature of the superhero, fascism, patriotism, ability/disability, and racism.

ENGL 335 Shakespeare W 4:30-7pm
A study of representative plays of Shakespeare. We will read four plays and then edit a play down to a short one act. Through critical investigation and performance, we will search for the core meaning of some of the greatest plays ever written. (Prerequisite: ENGL 125. Open to non-majors.)

ENGL 355: British Literature T/TH 1-2:15pm
A study of selected texts in British literature. In this course, we will explore some of the best books of British literature. We will explore the ideas of gods and monsters, looking at issues of fear and salvation, good and evil, and hope and despair. (Prerequisite: ENGL 125. Open to non-majors.)
